Steve Aalto

Mr.  Aalto has 30 years of experience and is a specialist in employment services. Early in his career he worked to implement the Boston Residents Jobs Policy, provided direct services as an employment specialist in Georgia at Briggs and Associates, and returned to Boston in 1995 to join WORK Inc. Since then Steve successfully transformed WORK Inc.’s sheltered workshop serving people with significant mental illnesses into a supported employment program in 1997 and developed a new supported employment program for people with developmental disabilities in 2000. In 2002, he became Vice President of Employment Services, and currently serves as Vice President of Workforce Development. He is the Chapter President of Massachusetts APSE (the Association of People Supporting Employment First). Steve is also actively involved in development of employment collaboratives, where employment providers work collectively to create business relationships and job opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment. He is a member of the Massachusetts Mental Health Planning Council, and the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services Statewide Employment Committee. He has a B.S. in Psychology, a Master of Public Administration, and was one of the first 200 people nationally to receive the Certified Employment Support Professional (CESP) credential.
