WORK Inc. is the largest employer of people with disabilities in the region. The agency has a myriad of programs — Day-Habilitation, Deaf Services, Family Support, Independent Living, Residential, Transportation, and Vocational Services — which all converge toward one goal: “To make the lives of individuals with disabilities better”
Today, WORK Inc. serves over 800 individuals with all types of disabilities, is New England’s leader in the Federal AbilityOne contracts (with over 100 individuals with disability working at any given time), and provides complete facilities management for many buildings including the John F. Kennedy Library, a national landmark. The agency operates 12 twenty-four hour residential sites serving 60 individuals, and assists another 100 individuals with its supported living programs. With a current budget of over 24 million dollars, WORK Inc.’s dedicated staff and managers continue its mission to provide vocational training and placement services that make the lives of individuals with disabilities better and more independent.
James Cassetta, the current CEO, took over the reins of the organization in 2001. From the beginning of his tenure, he began to search for a new facility to bring WORK Inc into the new century. With the Board of Directors’ full encouragement, Mr. Cassetta started WORK Inc’s first Capital Campaign and located the facility at 25 Beach St. He oversaw the complete renovation of the building and the move of the agency’s programs and services. In November of 2009, the agency moved to its current facility at 25 Beach St. in Dorchester. This state of the art building has the latest in adaptive and communications technology and plenty of space for both meetings and classrooms. Minutes from the expressway and easily accessible from the T, there is also plenty of parking.
